Gaaah, Prague!

Prague, man. It’s one of the poster children of over tourism and thus had been on my reluctant travel list. Indeed, this whole Central European train tour is made up of the classic/capital cities that stagnated on my go-to list, never quite rising to the top, for various reasons. And now here we are, thronging with the throng. This is mass tourism at its most massive.

Prague is every bit as beautiful as I’d heard. It is also so much more crowded than I’d ever imagined. Every square inch has something to look at and someone looking at it.

The locals are crabby. I get it. I probably would be too if my beautiful city was overrun with the likes of me. We have had ten gruff-to-indifferent interactions with waiters and salespeople for every one that’s been pleasant. We even got to experience the other Prague classic, a pickpocket attempt! But forewarned is forearmed; we were in super lockdown mode, all they managed to do was dislodge some hand sanitizer.

And yet, I’m glad we’re here. It’s stunning. Gorgeous. We’re clocking the kilometers and gawking with the best of them.

I’m just going to throw a bunch of photos up here of things I found strange, curious, or delightful. No Charles bridge pictures or any of the other overwhelming Prague beauties because where to begin? You’ll have to find that elsewhere or throng here yourself.

We’ve been here nearly a week and it’s time to move on. Next up, Bratislava and Budapest.

This shot is from Krakow and not polished Prague, but the sentiment holds.

Cheers,

Maer
